13Check-ins HereShhh! My master is taking a nap so I only have a few minutes to write this. This is Judge Judy, Brian Bs dog. Ive hijacked his laptop. What kind of idiot uses Pa$$word as his password? You really think the little dollar signs are going to throw me off the keyboard trail? My sense of smell is 500 times stronger than yours, dumb-ass! Anyway, he really loves Metro Mutts. In ct, this is the only pet store hes shopped at for over a year! Since his review of this place last November, Metro Mutts has continued its unparalleled customer service and expanded its inventory with the highest quality pet food, gourmet treats, bones, doggie sweaters, food dishes, grooming items, toys and collars. Furthermore, Brian ordered their walking services for me a few months ago, and I love it! Every afternoon while hes at work, Jackie and her crew of walkers take me out to show me off around the neighborhood, and lets ce it, I am clearly the iest in all of Capitol Hill.
Neighborhood: H Street Corridor/Atlas District/Near Northeast
(between N 5th St & N 6th St)
First Yelp post-- woot woot! We are new to DC and are the very very proud owners of a rescue Dobie-hound mix, Lady. When we were ced with having to go out of town without Lady, we were quite nervous. Lady isnt good with other dogs, so boarding was out. And, as shes a recent rescue, kenneling was Definitely NOT an option. So, we knew we had to hire a dog walker. We figured Lady would be most comfortable staying in her own house while we were out. I yelped dog walkers in the area and came across metro mutts. Their website was great and their prices were reasonable for the capitol hill area. So, the short of it is: METRO MUTTS ROCKS! They have been bulous to work with. We were tickled to come home to find a happy Lady and report cards that detailed Ladys time while we were gone. We quickly reserved Metro Mutts again for our Christmas vacation and we will hands down be loyal Metro Mutts clients for all future dog walking services. Their dog walkers seem very competent, Jackie is so responsive and helpful. We are very impressed with Metro Mutts!
Needless to say, you can bring your dog inside the store and they have bowls of water outside.
My only (minor) complaint is that they dont offer as wide a selection of non-food products (leashes, toys, etc.) as Id like. This is due to their space restrictions, though, so I cant complain too much about it. (And this wont be a problem for a lot of people; I just spoil my dog with a new leash and collar every few months as well as with way more toys than he needs.)
I use Metro Mutts for their dog-walking service and they are excellent. Jackie and David are super nice, communicate well, and I really feel good that my dog is well taken care of. The initial consultation is easy and informative, the daily walk reports are detailed, and the online account transactions are effortless. Ive tried a couple of other dog-walking companies in the NE Capitol Hill area and Metro Mutts provides the best service by r. The store is clean, well-stocked and has a knowledgeable and friendly staff. No need to go anywhere else! :)
said: My pup has been getting regular walks from Saving Grace since we moved to the hill 3 years ago. Not only are the walkers professional, courteous, and flexible, but they have been real lifesavers when it comes to locking yourself out of&8230;read more
Hey All- here to throw my 2 cents in with everyone elses regarding the awesomeness of this store. Locally owned store by a couple of people that really dig pets...How could one go wrong?? As the sign in the window states- for passionate pet owners!
Additionally, they have a great selection of foods and treats; I was able to buy small bags of a few different foods for my dog to try out, as well as peanut butter treats (Im not sure of the brand right now, but he loves them!).
I met two of the owners at a happy hour supporting local arts programming. They were both enthusiastic and seemed like conscientious business owners. Lee told me all about one of their pet food vendors that is made locally and out of high quality ingredients. So I ran by the store today to check it out and pick up a bag of food. While there Lees wife recommended some of their catnip toys and she was spot on. Ive never seen Fritz play with a toy that long and he was in heaven.
Overall, though, Id definitely recommend Metro Mutts. Its a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
Really great store--great products, friendly people, and for me, right in the neighborhood! I love that I can get the really high quality, natural, no-grain foods for my cats there (I used to go online and pay ridiculous shipping charges), and they also have a nice selection of toys and things. Also, it seems like they have a really nice social conscience--work with rescues, etc., which makes me feel good.
The store was not very large, but definitely had some unique knick knacks and there was a strong theme of healthy, organic foods and treats. I bought a 30lb bag of Taste of the Wild for ~~45 + tax, which I felt was very competitively priced! The staff was also very friendly.
(Oh, and, on a side note, they are going to offer grooming every so often through a mobile groomer. I havent used it yet, but its nice to know that its a service they will offer.)
Husband and wife team Lee and Kelly were ecstatic to move from Virginia to Capitol Hill with their two dogs Sunny and Hannah. After finding the perfect home on Capitol Hill, they were surprised and delighted to discover that long-time friends were practically next door neighbors.
A big plus for me was the selection of made in the USA toys! They also appear committed to selling local products as some of the food varieties were from a small company in Maryland.
Metro Mutts has some good options for dog food. My dog was not eating the dog food I bought him. I went to Metro Mutts and asked for some suggestions on good dog food. The brand recommended was A taste of the wild. It worked like a charm...my dog loves it! Great store, friendly staff and conveniently located.
My one quibble is that the store is a bit too doggie focused. at first I thought it was really just marketing--the name, the website, and the window display with lots of doggy stuffed animalscould lead you to believe this is only a dog store. For cats, the basics of food, toys or litter are taken care of nicely. .Still, I was just in looking for a cat carrier to take my kitties on car trips--mostly just back and forth from the vet. While they have several rather ncy ones that are appropriate for dogs, going to work, with little tents, etc., and some larger, more ones for dogs, they had nothing that was really good for the average cats needs. They offered to order, which was nice. Still, I just think as dog people they may need a cat consultant. Id be willing to serve :-).
I promise this store is packed with every good thing for your dog, including the staff. The guy helping me was a wealth of information about their food options and helped guide me to the exact product for my sick dog. I was equally impressed that the more I shared about my dogs situation, that the best option for my dog was not the most expensive item in my hand. Kudos for not trying to up sell!

I will definitely be back and next time Ill bring my dog and introduce him to some folks that really care about him :)
I would recommend her, and/or Metro Mutts, in a heartbeat. Ive yet to go to the actual store, but look forward to getting up there soon.
2 minutes on Yelp brought me to Metro Mutts, a place that I could have walked to, but chose not to as I was planning on buying a 30lb bag of food.
3. More stuff that smells like private parts. We dont care what it is or where you put it, just have it. Lots of it. And woMelissa Bourgeois, vet Metro Mutts NEuld sponsoring a speed dating event or two with a butt sniffing happy hour kill you? Cmon guys, wheres the love?
Adorable shop, pets welcome; they even provide their own friendly cat and dogs if you forgot your won.
I am only now getting around to writing a review especially since I have been shopping at the store since it opened. Initially, there were two aggressive dogs behind the counter. Now, there is a calm cat on top of the counter. There are lots of toys, treats, clothing, and pet food. The store is pleasant and the staff welcoming. I have switched from Le Chateau to MM because they have all that I need most of the time and they are closer.
Im definitely going back!
I stopped by quite on accident as I rarely find myself over in NE... I was early for an appointment at BritishInk (which is upstairs from the pet store) when I recalled that I was in the market for a training treat for my pup... Kelly greeted me and walked me through all the options that would be best for my dog. Very pleasant shopping experience- will definitely be back!
The ct that I can walk my dog the few blocks to MM and bring him in with me is so convenient. Better yet, my neighbor joins and buys all of her cat frood from there. Her cat grew a bit of a personality and will now only eat MM food :)
Weve been using Metro Mutts dog walking service for a while, and they have been, without exception, ntastic. Jackie and her staff are responsive, friendly, and dependable, and they take great care of their dog clients. Thanks, Jenna and Jackie!
They have managed to pack this space full of a huge variety of foods, treats, and supplies. They have these incredible folding water containers that open up into a squeeze bottle and drinking trough for your dog, that clip right onto your belt as well as some other great things Id not seen before. Reasonable prices and a nice staff, a great addition to the neighborhood!
Im actually moving pretty r away from Metro Mutts but I plan on the trek there to get my pups food and toys.
Oh wait, just saw you opened up a new store- cant wait to give it a try!
Definitely check this place out if you are in the area.
1. You need more squirrels. Yes, the stuffed squirrels with the squeakers embedded in their skulls are fun to chew, but Im not stupid; I know theyre ke. (Hell, I even know Im supposed to use semicolons between independent clauses and semi-clauses linked with a transitional phrase or a conjunctive adverb. Does that sound stupid to you?) Why not import a dozen or two live ones so we can hunt and chomp on some real squirrel booty? Brians always angry at me for sniffing all the rawhide treats and pulling on the leash while hes trying to shop anyway, so if you let a herd of those mouthwatering grey furry rodents loose, I could chase them while he searches for the latest grain-free Himalayan Yak milk tooth enamel strengthening dog chews that he and all the other local bourgeois dog owners are always trying to one-up each other with. And yes, I know I just ended that sentence with a preposition, but Im a dog for Christs sake. Whats your excuse?
I love Metro Mutts and so does my dog. I would have never known about Metro Mutts had i not taken a dog training class with Spot On Training as they are in the basement of the store. The staff of Metro Mutts is ultra helpful and you get points - printed on your receipt - for every purchase that you can apply to your next purchase. They have a great selection of dog toys, dog treats... They also have dog food but I dont buy mine there. They have a lot of alternate chew things for dogs. for example an antler that my dog is CRAZY about and which lasts forever. I love the place and head over there for the stuff I need although I live in Columbia Heights and not on Capitol Hill.
Metro Mutts DC--the insanely popular local pet store with healthy pet foods, pet supplies, dog walking and pet-sitting services. Conveniently located in two popular Capitol Hill areas--H Street NE and Barracks Row near Eastern Market--Metro Mutts is the first and last stop for passionate pet owners who appreciate business owners who know them and their pets by name, and can offer tips, advice, and good deals through the Loyalty Program, Bonus Bucks. Register your pets and get on the mailing list for monthly specials and updates.
Metro Mutts was formed in 2009 after 2 milies of dog owners came together with a passion...for their communities and for their dogs. Adamant about supporting local business and often wishing for additional services and stores in closer proximity to their own homes, friends and future co-owners, Lee, Kelly, and Anna, were growing weary of numerous treks across town to find affordable and healthy dog supplies for their growing puppies. Then they had an "aha moment"! Not only would they help bring businesses to their neighborhood, they would start their own business. Being experienced and avid pet lovers, they decided that a neighborhood pet store was a necessity. Metro Mutts was born and became an overnight sensation, winning Capitol Hill Retailer of the Year within a few months of opening. Now it 2 easy-to-access locations, Metro Mutts is proud to be growing in response to all the neighborhood love!
Absolutely the best pet store in DC. A big selection of natural foods and toys. The owner is sweet and helpful, and the two resident dogs are adorable. Great for hard-to-find, independent brands and a nice cat selection. I wish I lived closer, but its worth the trip.
I was supposed to replenish my dogs dry food supply all weekend, but somehow forgotten to do so until 3:00pm on a Sunday. While I used to shop at Super Petz in Annandale for their competitively priced dog food and their good selection of grain frees, I was feeling too lazy to drive 30 miles round trip from a bag of dog food.
Metro Mutts is awesome! It is a beautiful store with a great selection of well priced dog and cat toys and food. They have a ton of choice, and I like how they focused on byproduct free and made in the USA products.
Awesome shop, friendly helpful staff, great location! My only recommendation: more stores!
I was amazed at how knowledgeable the staff were, they provided a ton of detailed information about the variety of food they offered and even have bags ready made with samples for your pet to try.
I dont live in the city but always make a point of stopping at Metro Mutts when in the area. I love the store and the amazingly helpful staff. They have a great variety of food, treats, toys, bowls and more. Dogs are welcome and are always greeted by the well mannered dogs belonging to the staff.
Five stars, for sure.
I went to Metro Mutts on the first day it was open (Saturday, April 3).
Jackie watched my cat while I was away in New Orleans for a week long conference. I usually have friends stop by, but this particular week all my friends were either out of town, or headed down to meet up with me.
Never have I felt so confident leaving my house and my cat in a strangers hands. My cat isnt particularly high strung or needy, but I still feel bad leaving him. Jackie took ntastic care of him, brushed him, played with him, gave him lots of love, and even watered my plants and took care of my mail. And, the billing system and entire process was super easy and straightforward (and cheap!), and she left daily notes about her time here.
Metro Mutts is wonderful!
We bought some toys for our dog there, and plan on getting food as soon as we need to buy more. Great place.
Welcome to the neighborhood.
So worth supporting our neighborhood!
And the owners are great too, they are very helpful and know their stuff.
Nice selection of doggie treats and toys. There are free treat samples for your pooch on the counter, well organized and clean inside, and helpful staff.
This place is PERFECT! The store is quite small but they pack in QUITE the variety of high-quality pet food. And their prices are so reasonable, in ct, they seemed cheaper than most places. At check-out, the owner introduced herself and told me to come back if the food I purchased didnt work out so she could make different recommendations.
I love their support of local businesses and stuff made in USA. Cant say enough good things about this place.
6Check-ins HereThis store is super cute and the staff is super friendly. I can also walk to it from my house. This is a great addition to H Street. I asked and they are planning on starting some Yappy Hours, I think they are going to work with Toyland across the street. My only complaint is that their treats in the case, the more homemade treats were a bit limited. But its nice not to have to go all the way to eastern market with my boys have a need for treats.
New mutt owners, and those with baby mutts will love the Puppy Play Spot at the H Street store, as well as ongoing Manners Training through Spot On Training (studio located downstairs at Metro Mutts&39; H Street location).
Amazing selection of specialty foods; I used to only be able to order online for my allergic-to-food dog.
I stopped in to Metro Mutts just before heading out to run errands, with a big name pet store on my list of stops. It was the quick internet search that brought up so many rave reviews that made me decide to stop over.
Serving Washington, DC and surrounding area
This store is awesome with a great knowledgeable staff too. There are loads of natural and organic pet foods, toys and treats. They have puppy play times once a month and a loyalty program to save a few kibbles. To top it off, the healthy dog food selection isnt too expensive. Besides the money you spend for healthy foods you save in vet bills. Overall I highly recommend this store especially for NE residents.
Great Leashes!!!
And the icing on the cake? They have a store-cat, Romeo, that is hilarious and feisty. Chased my 42-lb dog around the store, hilarious!
,
Before I even had a pet, I loved this store. The owner is super sweet and recommended different places to adopt a dog. I recently adopted a black lab puppy and am a frequent shopper at Metro Mutts. The have a wide variety of treats/toys for being such a small shop.
I live in the neighborhood, and went into Metro Mutts for the first time the other weekend. The place looks great, and the owners are extremely helpful and friendly. I dont plan on going to any other pet stores as long as Metro Mutts is around. Thanks for opening up on H Street!
This is a small neighborhood pet store that has a unique selection of high- quality pet food, treats, toys and accessories. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I was impressed to hear that they host puppy play dates. I will be back soon.
The owners put so much thought into their store and the needs of their customers. And they continue to solicit ideas from their customers on product lines. One of my cats had some pretty serious health problems, and the organic, local cat food that metro mutts carries has helped keep my little girl healthy. The staff are very helpful and the prices are reasonable. I love stopping in for a treat or toy to spoil my kitties.
Wow! A great pet store on H Street! I dont have to leave the neighborhood anymore for cat food, snacks and toys.
I will definitely make a return visit here, and recommend it if you are looking for health conscious items for your dog.
Awesome pet store! Even if you dont live near H St., its worth the trip. They have a great variety of everything from toys to leashes to dog bowls to treats to catnip. I especially appreciate the super tough toys that have managed to survive more than a few chewers.
The owners, who were working, are knowledgeable and definitely love animals.
I just moved here a few weeks ago from San Diego, CA and I was worried about where I was going to get some food-allergy-friendly food for my adorable lil shar-pei mix. After a bit of researching, I decided to check out Metro Mutts.
So glad a pet store opened this close to my house! We no longer have to trek to buy our pup toys and bones. The owners could not be any nicer and happier to assist customers and chat it up about all the goods they have in the store. The store itself is super cute, great selection of toys and food. They have fresh baked treats (doMelissa Bourgeois, vetggy french fries that come in an actual fry bag...soooo cute and our boy loved them, Lee also threw in a doggy doughnut on the house which our pup devoured) We also got Chuck It here which has now become his absolute vorite toy. We keep it in the closet and he will sit in front of the closet and whimper until we give in and chuck tennis balls outside with him for hours. We will definitely become regulars at Metro Mutts!
2. I may be spayed, but that doesnt mean Im not a woman with needs. There are two big, brown studs in the area owned by a couple of Brians friends that really get my juices flowing. Metro Mutts, I beg you: please consider carrying canine aphrodisiacs. Any assistance you could render in my efforts to attract Dutch ( and Chewy ( would be kindly repaid in an endless supply of mauled kitten carcasses.
Anna, along with her husband, three kids and dog Batman, were acclimated to Capitol Hill life and were able to show their new neighbors the ropes.
Being experienced and avid pet lovers, they decided that a neighborhood pet store was a necessity. Armed with tons of research, expert advice and most importantly the growing support of neighbors, Anna, Kelly and Lee opened the flagship Metro Mutts store on H Street NE in early
Minus once star for pricing - definitely on the high side. Expected of a small boutique like shop though.
They have other great products as well, but I was most impressed by the leashes. Ive been looking every where for durable and comfortable dog leashes. They also have great dog food brands that are healthy for your dog instead of the questionable brands made in china. They also have great treats and other accessories for your pets.
They have a really excellent selection of dog and cat products. The super nice guy (sorry I forgot your name already!) is so helpful and so knowledgeable about not just the products they sell but also the products that they chose not to sell. He steered us towards a new dry cat food choice and some great treats (Tobiko flakes). The cats freaked out over them!!
Great store, knowledgeable staff, good selection and competitive prices for high end dog food. I work in DC but live in VA and sometimes drive here to get my dogs Orijen food--better price than most online stores.
While I agree with my master that Metro Mutts is the best pet store in DC by human standards, it could still be a lot better if theyd only listen to a dogs perspective for a change. Metro Mutts, on behalf of all pooches everywhere, this is our manifesto:
Established in 2010
Melissa Bourgeois, vet Metro Mutts NE,
This place is ntastic! They have all the weird and wonderful food and treats my dog and cat need, and all in my neighborhood so no more long treks to other stores. The owners are very friendly and very knowledgeable, I am so grateful to have this store in the neighborhood :)
Im very impressed at their desire to be a part of the community and plan to support them as much as possible.
The food is great. We switched our dog to one of the foods recommended by the owners and despite being a picky eater, he loves it. Its really nice that the owners have taken the time to pick out dog foods with good quality ingredients. The owners are really knowledgeable about the different types of food and what is good for certain dogs and cats. The prices are great for the quality of the food.
Bosko and I have found a great place to buy his top-quality dog food, treats, and toys, and its right in our neighborhood! The prices are great. Anna was very helpful. Bow wow!
The owners and staff are really helpful and knowledgeable about their products and even take suggestions regarding items they should carry. They were really nice and let us test a leash that we were looking at buying. All in all a bulous store and I am glad they are in our neighborhood! Check them out!
We love Metro Mutts and are thrilled that they chose our neighborhood. They have a great selection and a very nice and helpful staff. We even found a new food that our dog loves! They have all the brands that you would expect but I like them a lot more than GreenPets because their selection is better and they seem more consistent in their products. They are also doing a good job at bringing in groomers and other events. I will look forward to their presence here!
